ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BIOSTATISTICS

The Division of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, at the University of Minnesota has an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting fall/summer 2005.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Biostatistics or statistics. We are especially interested in individuals with excellent training and research interest in clinical trials, but we will also give serious consideration to applicants with a strong background or research record in other biostatistical areas. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to carry out biostatistical methods research, to contribute to our graduate program through teaching and advising, and to collaborate with other researchers in our clinical trials coordinating centers, as well as with other investigators in the School of Public Health and the Medical School.

The Division of Biostatistics (www.biostat.umn.edu) currently includes 21 graduate faculty and 65 staff. The Division offers MS, MPH, and PhD degrees, and interacts in teaching and advising with the U of Minnesota School of Statistics. At the present time, we enroll 50 graduate students (34 MS and 16 PhD). Current faculty research in statistical methodology includes analysis of spatial and longitudinal data, Bayes and empirical Bayes methods, computer-intensive methods such as Markov chain Monte Carlo, survival analysis, clinical trials design, statistical genetics/genomics, generalized linear models, latent variable models, and categorical data analysis.

The Division has an international reputation as the home of the statistical coordinating centers for a number of clinical trials in AIDS/HIV, lung disease, and cardiovascular disease. Other major research areas of applied research within the Division include cancer prevention and treatment, dental research, environmental and occupational health, health policy, chronic care, and smoking prevention. Multi-year grants and contracts for various Divisional projects total over $75 M. Division faculty actively participate with researchers in the U of Minnesota's Biomedical Genomics Center and the Bioinformatics Graduate Faculty. The University has extensive technological and staff support for research initiatives in genetics and proteomics.

The salary range for this faculty position will be very competitive, and the University of Minnesota offers excellent fringe benefits.

To apply, please send a letter specifying interest in the Assistant Professor position; along with a curriculum vitae and 1-3 reprints or preprints of papers, if available. Please arrange also for three letters of reference to be sent by February 15, 2005, to:
