ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BIOSTATISTICS
The Division of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, at the
University of Minnesota has an opening for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor position starting fall/summer 2005.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Biostatistics or statistics.
We are especially interested in individuals with excellent training
and research interest in clinical trials, but we will also give
serious consideration to applicants with a strong background or
research record in other biostatistical areas. The successful candidate
for this position will be expected to carry out biostatistical methods
research, to contribute to our graduate program through teaching
and advising, and to collaborate with other researchers in our clinical
trials coordinating centers, as well as with other investigators
in the School of Public Health and the Medical School.
The Division of Biostatistics (www.biostat.umn.edu) currently includes
21 graduate faculty and 65 staff. The Division offers MS, MPH, and
PhD degrees, and interacts in teaching and advising with the U of
Minnesota School of Statistics. At the present time, we enroll 50
graduate students (34 MS and 16 PhD). Current faculty research in
statistical methodology includes analysis of spatial and longitudinal
data, Bayes and empirical Bayes methods, computer-intensive methods
such as Markov chain Monte Carlo, survival analysis, clinical trials
design, statistical genetics/genomics, generalized linear models,
latent variable models, and categorical data analysis.
The Division has an international reputation as the home of the
statistical coordinating centers for a number of clinical trials
in AIDS/HIV, lung disease, and cardiovascular disease. Other major
research areas of applied research within the Division include cancer
prevention and treatment, dental research, environmental and occupational
health, health policy, chronic care, and smoking prevention. Multi-year
grants and contracts for various Divisional projects total over
$75 M. Division faculty actively participate with researchers in
the U of Minnesota's Biomedical Genomics Center and the Bioinformatics
Graduate Faculty. The University has extensive technological and
staff support for research initiatives in genetics and proteomics.
