We thank our alumni and friends of the Division for their generous support
of the Jacob E. Bearman and the James R. Boen Student Awards,
which have been endowed through their generous contributions, ensuring
that the award will continue for many years to come. Contributions to
the funds are tax-deductible and may be made via personal or cashier's
check. We also invite contributions for the newly established Marcus
O. Kjelsberg Clinical Trials Award. Division of Biostatistics Student Awards Jacob E. Bearman Student Achievement Award The Jacob E. Bearman Student Achievement Award was established in 1994.
The award, presented annually in recognition of outstanding academic and
professional achievement, is given in honor of Jacob "Pete"
Bearman, who was a faculty member in the Division from 1953 to 1978 and
headed the Division from 1956 to 1965. Dr. Bearman passed away in 2005. James R. Boen Student Achievement Award The James R. Boen Graduate Award was established in 2000. The award is annually presented and given in honor of James R. Boen, a faculty member in the Division of Biostatistics from 1964 to 2000 and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Public Health from 1985 to 1998. It is with sadness we write that Dr. Boen passed away in December, 2007. The James R. Boen Award provides financial support and recognizes Biostatistics students whose achievements are strongest in applied biostatistics. Recipients of the Boen Award - Past 5 years Biostatistics Teaching Assistant Awards To recognize outstanding service as a teaching assistant and acknowledge the contributions to the Division's educational mission, the Division established a Teaching Assistant Award during the 1997-1998 academic year.
