Brad Carlin's Music Page
Here are a few mp3 files I've been involved with
(use Internet Explorer to hear them):
-
"Wimoweh (The Lion Sleeps Tonight)":
Lyrics and
Music
Brad Carlin (lead and backing vocals).
This was just a fun way to learn how to use a 4-track recorder!
-
"Biostat Division Blues":
Lyrics and
Music
Lance Waller (guitar);
Brad Carlin (piano, bass, drum machine, lead and backing vocals).
This is a parody of Jim Croce's, "Working at the Car Wash Blues."
Lance and I wrote this with Donna Seehausen, a long-time administrative
assistant in the biostat division here at Minnesota, for a Christmas
party a while back. Lance left for Emory a few years ago, but when
he came up for a visit one time we laid down the instrumental tracks real quick
in my basement; I added the vocal tracks later.
-
"Look Inside":
Lyrics and
Music
Brad Carlin (piano, organ, bass, drum machine, lead and backing vocals);
Richard Jahnke (phantom guitar solo).
This is an original I wrote a few years ago; kind of a "finger-pointing"
song in a "Little Feat meets Michael McDonald" mode.
I wanted it to be "churchy" enough that I
could perform it there and not have the congregation staring at me.
This is as good as the demo ever got;
I always intended my friend Rich Jahnke to come by and lay down the
guitar solo in the middle, but we never got around to it; I had run
out of free tracks anyway!
-
"These are Bayes":
Lyrics and
Music
Jennifer Hill (lead and backing vocals);
Brad Carlin (organ and backing vocals);
Mark Glickman (guitars, bass, and drum programming).
Lyrics written by Jennifer for the ISBA 2000 (Crete) conference,
May 2000; first performed there by the Bayesian Band
(Jennifer Hill, vocals and percussion; Brad Carlin, keys and vocals;
Mark Glickman, guitar and vocals; David Heckerman, bass).
Recorded at Glickman Studios October 2000.
-
"No Time":
Lyrics and
Music
Mark Glickman (guitars, lead vocal, and midi programming);
Jennifer Hill (backing vocals);
Brad Carlin (backing vocals and screaming).
Lyrics written by Mark for the ISBA 2000 (Crete) conference,
May 2000; first performed there by the Bayesian Band
(Jennifer Hill, vocals and percussion; Brad Carlin, keys and vocals;
Mark Glickman, guitar and vocals; David Heckerman, bass).
Recorded at Glickman Studios October 2000.
-
"Bayesian Believer":
Lyrics and
Music
Brad Carlin (lead and backing vocals);
Mark Glickman (guitars, backing vocals, and production);
Mr. Midi (everything else).
Lyrics written by Brad for the Valencia 7 conference, Tenerife, Spain,
June 2002; first performed there by the Bayesian Band (Brad Carlin,
keys and vocals; Mark Glickman, guitar and vocals; David Heckerman, bass).
Recorded at Glickman Studios Sunday September 16, 2002.
Sorry my voice is so rough and flat; I had been screaming at the TV
the night before during Nebraska's embarrassing loss to Penn State,
just after talking and drinking too much at the Cape Cod MCMC conference.
We had the crowd singing along with the chorus in Spain; I'm hoping
it joins "There's No Theorem Like Bayes' Theorem" as a Bayesian classic ;)
