These data are the annual medical claim costs for the Emerald health care providers during the period 1986 - 1992, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), and the medical portion of the CPI. [The CPI is an index compiled by the U.S. government which measures the cost of a typical U.S. wage-earner's purchased goods and services. It includes for example the wage-earner's food costs, transportation costs, health care costs, housing costs, etc.] Use these data to refute or support Emerald's claim that the cost of their health plan has risen more slowly than either the CPI or the medical portion of the CPI.
