The schoolsubjects data come from BSMG Chapter 5 and 6 who reference the data originally coming from Lawley and Maxwell (1971 p. 66). It is a very simple data set, 6 variables which is good to use for instructive purposes introducing EFA rotation, and CFA. The 6 variables represent 220 boys marks in 6 different school subject areas: Gaelic, English, History, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry The data given is the correlation matrix for these 6 variables. It is of interest to see if these subject matter areas are "measuring" any underlying latent variables, e.g. reading ability, math ability.
