Syncing
Missing Sync for Palm OS (commercial) is a much improved replacement of Palm
Desktop.
Backup Conduit
The Mark/Space Backup conduit can back up all the files on the Palm (in the
conduit setting, check "Backup all databases") and restore them if necessary.
It moves backup copies of files that are no longer on the handheld into an
archive folder:
/Users/<user name>/Documents/Palm/Users/<hotsync name>/Backups/Archive/

Apple iSync Conduit
To let iSync overwrite the Palm data, first remove the device from iSync and
then add it again. iSync will then provide the option of Erase data on device
then sync.
To do the reverse, backup the calender and/or addressbook data on the Mac and
then delete the data files. Then remove and re-add the Palm device to iSync.
At next syncing, select Merge data on computer and device.

Taking Notes
- MissingSync provides a MemoPad application to handle Memos on the
desktop. (Note: the original Memo or Memos conduits need to be removed for
the syncing to work properly.)
- On the Palm side, PsMemo (freeware) is a better replacement of Memo. On
the same web site there is also a PsDB (freeware) program to write/read CSV
files and PsLink (freeware) that allows Wiki-style linking of Memos and
Calender/Contacts. (Original website is in Japanese:

- TexT (GPL) can both import and export Memos, and read/write DOC or
text format files from internal memory or SD card.
- sied (GPL) and tejpWriter (GPL) can be used for files saved on the card.
- Shadow Plan (shareware) is an excellent outliner and project manager. It
also comes with a desktop program. Progect (GPL) is also a good program
but unfortunately the PDesk does not work very well under Mac OS X.

- txt2pdfdoc (GPL) is a command line tool to convert text files to Palm DOC
format.
- PalmPDF (GPL) is real PDF viewer, still in alpha stage but usable.
- AvantGo (free basic membership)
- Documents to Go (commercial) is an editor of MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint
files. Supposely it offers better MS Office support than MS Office Mobile
on a Pocket PC! The latest version 8 also introduced native PDF support.

Dictionary. Works with Plucker.

- Palm Chess Hiarcs (shareware) is the best (and strongest) Palm chess
program.
- OpenChess (GPL) is based on an old version of GNU Chess and is good for a
few quick games.
