Grading
Homework
Homework assignments will be given approximately every other week during the semester. We
encourage you to work together in computing and discussing the problems. However,
each student is expected to independently write up the submitted assignment using her or his
own computing and giving explanations in her or his own words. All assignments will involve
computing; your written report should summarize the main results using tables and graphs and
attach only relevant computer output to what you turn in. The report should be capable of being
read and understood without the detailed computer output.
Homework assignments will be due at the start of the class. Unless arrangements have been made with the
instructor PRIOR to the due date, homework turned in after it is due will have 50% points deducted
and no credit will be given after the next homework is due.
Exam
There will be in-class midterm and final exams. You may use a hand calculator on all tests.
Course Grade
Course grade is based on homework (50%), midterm exam (20%),
and final exam (30%). A letter grade will be determined from the percentage of points each student
receives. The curve for final grades will be: A = 95-100; A- = 90-94; B+ = 85-89; B = 80-84;
B- = 75-79; C+ = 70-74; C = 65-69; C- = 60-64; F = below 60. For those registered S/N,
S = 60-100.
Please note the following:
- If applicable, students may change grading options during the initial registration period or during the first two weeks of
the term. The grading option may not be changed after the second week of the term.
- An incomplete grade is permitted only in cases of exceptional circumstances and following consultation with the instructor.
In such cases an "I" grade will require a specific written agreement between the instructor and the student specifying the
time and manner in which the student will complete the course requirements. Extension for completion of the work will not
exceed one year.
